Creativity and Teambuilding Facilitator
Innovation Speaker
Bridge Builder

With a contagious enthusiasm for solving problems that matter in ways that actually have impact, Alex is an inspirational force to all who work with him.

A high clarifier-ideator, he is skilled in both synthesizing vast disconnected swathes of data to identify the root causes of problems and generating an abundance of ideas for approaching these challenges with limitless creativity. His other skills include workshop facilitation, de-risking and stakeholder interviewing, program pipeline design, community and team building, data analysis, and rapid acquisition of new skills and concepts.

Alex currently works with student entrepreneurs at UVA to develop programs that cultivate the entrepreneurial mindset and empower young entrepreneurs to solve problems they care about in creative and effective ways. He aims to transform entrepreneurship education to better support students on the path to new venture creation.

Whereas national data indicate that the explosion of entrepreneurship programs have had no effect on the rate of new entrepreneurs nationally, the pipeline Alex developed for UVA has yielded an 18-fold increase in student engagement, a 4-fold increase in founders continuing after graduation, and has propelled UVA to the national stage with multiple wins in the Collegiate Inventors Competition and the ACC InVenture Prize.

Previously, Alex has pursued multiple entrepreneurial ventures, ranging from a translational research endeavor developing a point-of-care rapid diagnostic for bacterial infections that can be used in low-resource settings, to a magazine highlighting the accomplishments of student entrepreneurs around the world.

Alex is a frequent speaker on best practices of supporting student entrepreneurs at universities and is sought out as a consultant for university programs seeking to better support their student entrepreneurs in new venture creation. Alex is currently pursuing an M.S. in Creative Studies, was educated as a biomedical engineer at the University of Virginia (B.S. with High Honors, 2013), and was trained with an international perspective through the International Baccalaureate Diploma (2009).

Though raised in Virginia, he has been an avid world traveller and has a deep appreciation for all cultures. When he isn't working, Alex can be found running along the Rivanna River, playing the guitar, and finding adventure.

His long-term passions are:

  • the development of a more complete and accessible process for individuation that will combat the current age of anomie,
  • tackling the loneliness epidemic among young adults by providing conduits for more meaningful and high-quality connections,
  • steering the massive "entrepreneurship ecosystem" complex away from being an expensive hype machine to instead intentionally cultivate the entrepreneurial mindset

If you would like to collaborate on any of these projects, or would like to hire Alex as a speaker, facilitator, or entrepreneurship consultant, please reach out.

ENFP: The Inspirer
ESFP: The Performer

Depending on the day, my MBTI is either ENFP or ESFP. These are nicknamed "the Inspirer" and "the Performer," respectively.

ENFP: .ENFPs are people-centered creators with a focus on possibilities and a contagious enthusiasm for new ideas, people and activities. Energetic, warm, and passionate, ENFPs love to help other people explore their creative potential. ENFPs are typically agile and expressive communicators, using their wit, humor, and mastery of language to create engaging stories. Imaginative and original, ENFPs often have a strong artistic side.

ESFP: ESFPs are vivacious entertainers who charm and engage those around them. They are spontaneous, energetic, and fun-loving, and take pleasure in the things around them: food, clothes, nature, animals, and especially people. ESFPs are typically warm and talkative and have a contagious enthusiasm for life. They like to be in the middle of the action and the center of attention. They have a playful, open sense of humor, and like to draw out other people and help them have a good time.
